Webster Park

Why I love it: Webster Park is one of those locations that genuinely surprises people. At 550 acres, it has more variety than almost any other single park in the Rochester area — Lake Ontario shoreline, evergreen slopes, rolling green valleys, open fields, stone shelters, and bluffs with water views. Between all of those backdrops, every session feels like its own discovery. It's also one of the few Rochester-area parks where you can get a real lakefront shot without driving to the city.

Best for: Families, pets, portraits, adventurous couples.

Light & timing: Sunset over the lake is genuinely stunning, and golden hour across the open fields can be just as striking. Wind is a real factor near the shore — plan for it, especially with longer hair or lighter fabrics. Morning is quieter and the lake light is soft and even.

Logistics: Multiple parking lots spread throughout the park, with short walks to most viewpoints and shooting areas. The park also has a fishing pier, tennis and pickleball courts, youth camping areas, and a family campground — useful context for clients who want to make a day of it.

Accessibility: Mixed terrain. Many flat areas near the shelters and open fields are very accessible. Some paths leading to shoreline overlooks and bluffs involve uneven ground and slopes.

Pro tip: Bring a hairbrush or anti-frizz kit on breezy days near the lake. Also worth planning footwear that works for both grassy fields and rocky shoreline — we often move between both in a single session.
