Webster Arboretum

Why I love it: The Webster Arboretum packs a lot of variety into a compact, walkable space. Winding paths move through ornamental grasses, flowering trees, and specimen plantings, with a charming gazebo that works as a portrait backdrop in every season. The pond adds a reflective, quiet quality that you don't find in most suburban parks. It's close to home for a lot of my Webster and northeast Rochester clients, and it almost always delivers something beautiful regardless of when we show up.

Best for: Families, portraits, engagements, pets.

Light & timing: Gentle shade pockets throughout make this a forgiving location even on bright days. Spring blooms and fall color are the standout seasons, but the evergreen plantings keep it interesting year-round. Morning light is soft and flattering in the open sections near the gazebo.

Logistics: Easy parking in the lot off Schlegel Rd. Most shooting areas are a short walk from the car. Restrooms available seasonally. The compact layout makes it efficient — you can cover several distinct backdrops in a single session without a lot of walking between spots.

Accessibility: Mostly flat with paved and packed gravel paths throughout. One of the more accessible parks on this list.

Pro tip: Neutral palettes and natural textures photograph especially well against the variety of greens here. Avoid bright, saturated colors — they compete with the plantings rather than complementing them.
