At Home
Why I love it: Not every great portrait happens outdoors. Sometimes the best light is the afternoon sun through a living room window, and the most relaxed subject is the cat who has claimed the arm of the couch as their own. In-home sessions work especially well when the subject does best in familiar surroundings — which describes most cats, most newborns, and more families than you might expect. I come to you, we work with what your space offers naturally, and the images end up feeling like your actual life rather than a version of it relocated to a park.
Best for: Cats and dogs who are most themselves at home. Newborns and young babies. Families who want images that show where they actually live, including milestone moments like a first birthday. Anyone whose pet, child, or lifestyle simply works better indoors.
Light & timing: Natural window light is the foundation of every in-home session, and I'll ask before we book which rooms get the best light and what time of day works best for your space. North and east-facing windows tend to give the softest, most even light. That said, I bring lighting equipment to every in-home session, so if your space is darker or the weather doesn't cooperate, we're not stuck. Good portraits are possible in more spaces than you'd expect.
Logistics: Nothing to pack, nowhere to drive. I bring everything the session needs, and in-home sessions are priced the same as any other portrait session. For cat sessions especially, we keep things calm and unhurried. If your cat needs twenty minutes to warm up to me, that time is built in.
Accessibility: As accessible as your own home, making this a natural fit for clients with mobility considerations, newborns, or pets who can't or shouldn't travel.
Pro tip: A little tidying in the main shooting area helps, but the goal is portraits that feel lived-in and real, not a catalog shoot. Your space doesn't need to be perfect.
